About Us

Liyusew Kidane is an accomplished immigration and refugee lawyer with over seven years of experience in Canadian immigration and refugee law. He provides dedicated legal services to individuals seeking refugee status and resettlement in Canada and navigating complex immigration challenges. Liyusew has successfully represented clients before all divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board, including the Refugee Protection Division, where he represented refugee claimants, and the Refugee Appeal Division, where he successfully appealed rejected claims.

In addition, Liyusew has represented clients in admissibility proceedings before the Immigration Division and achieved successful outcomes before the Immigration Appeal Division for Canadian residents whose spousal sponsorship applications were refused by visa officers. His passionate and zealous advocacy is evident in his excellent written and oral arguments before the Federal Court, where he has successfully challenged rejected refugee appeals, refugee resettlement refusals, study permit denials, and visitor visa refusals.

Liyusew has further honed his advocacy skills by gaining experience deciding refugee claims and visa applications. He provides strategic guidance to his clients on key issues and evidentiary requirements, offering a pragmatic approach that yields efficient and expedient solutions to their respective cases. 

Called to the Ontario bar in September 2018, Liyusew holds a Master of Laws from Dalhousie University and an LLM in Canadian Common Law from York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School. He earned the Canadian equivalent of a Bachelor of Laws in January 2018. Throughout his academic career, he has received numerous awards and scholarships for academic excellence and his advocacy for social justice.

In June 2024, Liyusew founded Kidane Law, a firm committed to providing client-focused, compassionate, and exceptional legal services in Canadian immigration and refugee matters.
